For over ten years - Maggie's Organics has been manufacturing textiles made from organic fibers. Their products are made from certified organic cotton - wool - and linen and pesticide-free hemp. After learning of the ravages of conventional cotton growing - they dedicated their company to converting as many acres as possible from conventional to organic agriculture. Maggie's became instrumental in the development of Maquilador Mujeres - a worker-owned cooperative in Nueva Vida - Nicaragua - and their company is now dedicated to developing cooperative partnerships with workers who have stake in their future - and to Fair Trade practices. Each tote bag is screen-printed by Alliance Graphics in Berkeley - California - a union shop which uses environmentally-friendly biodegradable inks that have not been tested on animals.
